Ducati’s retro bike

The Formula 73 is inspired by the 750 Super Sport Desmo, which has its roots in the 750 Imola Desmo that won the 1972 Imola 200.

“That same spirit is now reinterpreted in a limited edition of only 873 units,” Ducati said.

The Formula 73 was inspired by the 750 Super Sport Desmo that was the first production Ducati to feature desmodromic valve actuation.

The details of this collector’s Café Racer include a silver and green livery, with a gold vertical band on the tank that recapture the style details of the historic model. That gold band references the fibreglass tank of early supersport bikes, which had a transparent section, to allow the rider to check the fuel level.

The engine, complete with silver coloured cover and classic Borgo Panigale logo, further strengthen the reference.

Technical modernity with authentic charm show in handlebars with bar-end mirrors, front fairing, short, tapered tail and the 803cc Desmodue engine.

“Formula 73 pays tribute to the Seventies,” said Andrea Amato, Ducati’s head of design and advanced design

“This was an era of great change and innovation, where design gave life to objects that would become iconic.

“This same philosophy led to the creation of the 750 Super Sport, from which Formula 73 now takes up the legacy, reinterpreting its very essence.

“In designing the bike, we wanted to avoid weighing it down with superfluous elements and focus instead on the purity of its forms.”

Tech info on the Formula 73 includes power of 73bhp (53,7kW) at 8250rpm; 65.2Nm (48 lb ft) of torque at 7000rpm; dry weight of 183kg and seat height of 183kg.

Suggested ride-away pricing is from around A$27,400.
