New Classic plates in NSW

The August 2024 edition of Transport for NSW’s DRIVE Lite newsletter, covering the Historic Vehicle Scheme (HVS) and Classic Vehicle Scheme (CVS) topics has advised us that there’s a new Classic Registration Number Plate for NSW historic vehicles.

From 1 July 2024, a new number plate design became available for vehicles in the Classic Vehicle Scheme (CVS).

The new number plate replaces the Conditional number plate traditionally issued to vehicles in the scheme. It is automatically issued to new CVS registrations and available to be purchased for a one-off fee of $55 for existing vehicles in the scheme at the time of registration renewal.

The new number plate size and design better fits classic vehicles, without needing alterations to the plate or the mounting. It also includes the word ‘Classic’ to enhance the authenticity of classic vehicles and to help differentiate classic vehicles from other vehicles.

Jack Murray’s 1964 Morris Minor Traveller sports the new plates – DRIVE Lite photo.
