Number plate auction record
A rare South Australian number plate sold for $2.3 million in an August online auction. The previous top SA number plate sale was for just under $600,000.

The number plate SA 8, which was one of the first numeric plates issued in 1906, was auctioned in late August 2024, in addition to 27 historic or significant number plates.
More than $4 million was raised and handed over to South Australia’s Department for Infrastructure and Transport, which is committed to spending the money on the State’s road network.
Transport Minister Tom Koutsantonis said he was happy that the plate remained in South Australia.
