Steve Irwin’s 40 Series for sale
Collecting Cars is offering at auction the iconic 4WD wagon that once belonged to the late Steve Irwin, the world-famous Australian conservationist and zookeeper.

This on-line auction platform for the sale of classic, performance and collectible cars will offer via online auction the ‘Crocodile Hunter’s’ beloved 1982 Toyota LandCruiser HJ47 Troop Carrier. This 40 Series previously performed duties at Queensland’s Australia Zoo and comes with a history booklet and a letter from Steve’s son, Robert Irwin, authenticating the vehicle’s provenance.
However, the Toyota is a resto-mod, not a faithful restoration, being powered by a 4.9-litre (302 cubic inch) Cleveland Ford V8 engine and with evidence of original ute-chassis components, including a rear crossmember from a ute model and extra cab mounts.
The bodywork boasts green ‘The Crocodile Hunter’ lettering along the sides and bonnet.
“This special Toyota LandCruiser represents an important piece of Australian history and culture,” said Lee Hallett, head of APAC at Collecting Cars.

The vehicle’s seller acquired it directly from Australia Zoo in 2013, after which it underwent extensive mechanical refurbishment, an electrical system overhaul and other improvements during its current 12-year ownership.
Online bidding for this special vehicle opens Sunday 24 August 2025 and closes Monday 1 September 2025.
